Why volumetric weight matters
Couriers charge based on the higher of actual dead weight or volumetric weight. A large but light box can cost more than a small heavy one because it takes up space in the vehicle or aircraft.
Use the formula: Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length × Width × Height) ÷ Divisor
Common divisors are 5000 for air/standard courier, 4000 for some e-commerce services, and 2700 for surface/road shipments.
